Unable to run " Windows Update Advisor " on Windows-7-64bit
In researching a cure to a Windows Backup Problem I eventually was directed to try Windows Install from a Flash-Drive. I selected keep the files and fix/replace Windows 7. After about an hours I got the notice that it was unsuccessful. Researching that, I was directed to try Windows Upgrade Adviser. That fails, as seen in the screen shots. I tried Safe-Mode and the Upgrade Adviser also fails there. See screen shot. Then I research that and directed to try SFC. SFC completes with no errors. I am unsure how to add screenshots but will try the two jpegs. i never see the jpegs after 'insert' so I add links http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/130378 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/130381

Hi , Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor scans your PC for potential issues with your hardware, devices, and installed programs, and recommends what to do before you upgrade. If you want to reinstall the Windows 7, there is no need to run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. I suggest you disable all of the non-critical integrated hardware (such as the network card, the firewire interface, and the sound card) in the BIOS and run the In-place Upgrade again. If you still failed to upgrade, please assist me collect the following log files from the location below for analyzing. %windir%\panther\setupact.log and setuperr.log How to use SkyDrive to upload collected files and post screen shot/picture: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65/Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support

After two hours I get a screen showing unpgrade failed. That's after many many restarts and different screens of 'collecting' and 'expanding files'. Final after restoring my "old" window7 seven system is a note telling me to run MS upgrade adviser ... thiat is where I started, a long time ago. If I run that 'Adviser' program it tells me I am not compatible to run it either. This is a genuine Windows install ...go figure I have uploaded to the public folder, a screen shot and two setup logs. they seem to reflect the last time I looked before the reversal of upgrade. Gee , this is where I started ... Can't use upgrade adviser and now it's telling me to use upgrade adviser. Log file are in the Public Folder. However, I do not know how you get to them. thanks for all the help so far.

Hi , The system ask you to run Windows Update Advisor is because some programs might not work properly after the upgrade. And, it will recommend you uninstall these programs before upgrading. According to the log errors, this issue is mainly related to device drivers. The drivers may be missing or corrupted. I recommend you to update your device drivers and disable all the security problems before performing the upgrade. Meanwhile, it is recommended to connect to Internet while installing Windows 7 so as to get online the latest updates for setup. If the issue persists, please perform a clean install instead of in-place upgrade. You can use Windows Easy Transfer to back up your personal files and settings. I have spent some great amount of time trying to "Guess" just which Drivers are supposed to be the supossed "Problem". for example: 2012-07-04 13:13:17, Error Failed to find driver file path. Error=00000002x[gle=0x80092004] 2012-07-04 13:13:17, Error Failed to find driver file path. Error=00000002x[gle=0x80092004] On this machine, there is no "Troubleshooter" that I personally can execute; or exists, which indicates there is an existing problem; a "Driver" problem. Windows Update Adviser can not run and errors with a non-logged error even after clean install of it. And these problems exist on two M/S Win-7 legal-installs, at this location. what I DO find, in all these 'Official' M/S forums is that many Moderators stick "Answer" to the thread and close it out when clearly the Original Poster has not indicated it was in fact ever corrected .. and I am referring to this very line of questioning regarding Windows-7-Upgraade (an W-7 ..Adviser). Gee. Please advise where I should look to correct this mystical microsoft driver problem?Windos-7 Repair or install (but not Clean Install from formatted HDD) fails at what seems to be the end of the successful installation, then backs itself out of the Install.

Hi Gudarian, Thank you for your reply. Your effort are appreciated. These drivers or corrupted components may come with some applications which installed before. It is a time-consuming job to fix it and we cannot guarantee it can be repaired. The workaround is to run a clean install of Windows 7 and use Windows Easy Transfer to transfer your files and settings. Best Regards.Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support

Great Reply. OK then, I tried to install Windows Easy Transfer on my Network Drive so I could unload from the corrupted windows-t-64bit system to the Network; Clean-Install Win-7 then re-load back form the Net Drive. However, when I run the Windows6.0-KB928635-x64.msu (5558kb) I get error that it is not for my system. So, please explain how I run Windows-Easy-Transfer thanks

Hi , If you're using an administrator account, you can open Windows Easy Transfer: Open Windows Easy Transfer by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Easy Transfer, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Easy Transfer. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Note: If you're not using an administrator account, you can't open Windows Easy Transfer. Hi , If you're using an administrator account, you can open Windows Easy Transfer: yes, I am 'admin' I deleted a section on the easy-transfer I now have Clean-Installed Windows-7. I have not brought back any programs. No anti virus is runnng. I just tried Windows Backup .. it took an hour and failed as before the Clean-Install .. the ORIGINAL reason I got on these MS forums was to try and find a solution to windows backup failing every single time .. even on a text file from "Root" to an external NTFS USB drive. I have tried many target drives. Same error on two computers and this one is a clean install. Error code 0x8007007b I don't care what the error code says about file names .. this is false. Over the last three months I have run every kind of "odd file name finder" program available. Every single MS helper tells me to "clean install" .. OK boys .. I did a "clean install" and the same problem is there. If I am so inclined, which I am not, I will have to re-install perhaps 60 programs then recover their respective databases from a network drive because Easy-Transfer does not actually re-install nor add to register. I am excessively upset about this time wasting Clean-Install "solution" ... If a clean install did NOT fix the windows backup problem, then what's the next idea.

Progress! Previously I had run chkdsk on the C: drive. Previously I formatted the target drive. Then I run the install of Windows 7; went through some 87 "Updates"; ran the Windows Backup and, it failed with the 0x800 ... failure mentioned. What I hadn't tried was to boot to the flash drive which contains MS current "Download" for Win-7. From that F:\ pointed as root, I was able format the C: drive; answer all the cautions about formatting; and then run the Win-7 installer from the Root (of F:\ technically) . I underwent the 87 "Upgrades" to bring the operating system up to 'Current'. Then I ran Windows Backup. And it worked!! First time in several months, hours and hours of experimenting. The bad news is, obviously, at the moment I can not gain the ability to bring-back the previously Network-Stored "Windows Easy Transfer" files. How do I do that? When you run Windows Easy Transfer, the questions area asked as if you are NOW going to begin to copy this Computer to that one so you can bring that one back. This was an exceedingly lousy way to solve the failure of MS Windows Backup to work due to perceived file name error and whatever drivel is presented with that error. It is really BAD if I am unable to regain the data records and settings from the Network drive.Help me to get that Easy Transfer stuff back onto the renewed O/S Computer. Then I have to do it to this one as well because the same error exist when trying a few things one of which is Windows Backup. ------------------- however, whith this last Blue-Screen I jst had, I have to say all is not good.
